National IT Excellence Awards in March

Teradata announced that nominations for the 10th Annual National IT Excellence Awards are being accepted until January 6th, 2012. The awards program, sponsored by Teradata, was designed to acknowledge outstanding achievements by individuals in the Pakistan information technology (IT) community. Winners will be recognized at a gala event to be held in March 2012.

“We look forward to recognizing those individuals that have had the greatest impact on the Pakistan IT community – we are looking for the best-of- the-best,” said Khuram Rahat, M.D. Teradata Pakistan. “The program has grown ever since we launched it in 1997, as part of Pakistan’s Golden Jubilee, which recognize professionals in the IT industry.”

Network Engineering as a Career in Pakistan

Network Engineering is honestly not Desktop Support – This domain is extremely vast and offers very rewarding and challenging careers, I will try to cover most important aspects, skill set needed to be on the Network Engineering track and differentiating factors – considering the fact there are more than 2k+ students pass-out locally every year with Computer Engineering degree.

Two very prominent domains of Industry students can choose if they would want to be part of Network Engineering profession. One is Vendor Partner(s) or Solution Providers industry and the second is Internet/Data Service Provider(s) industry.
I will briefly try to describe the difference between these two industries and the skill set required to be the most ideal candidate for the employers from these and the strategy one can adopt to hunt the opportunity in the most suitable domain.

Steve Jobs Had Syrian Origins

While the world mourned the death of Steve Jobs, a little known fact about the great man came into the spotlight. Steve Jobs, born as Abdul Latif Jandali, was of Syrian origin. As it turns out he was born to an American mother Joanne Carole Schieble and a Syrian Muslim father Abdul Fattah Jandali.

Schieble’s conservative father refused to allow the marriage between the two and the baby was put up for adoption and a couple from California, Paul and Clara Jobs took him in.

Google Apps Coming To Google+ ‘Within Days’; Company Taking A ‘Cautious Approach’ To APIs

Google+ SVP Vic Gundotra and Google Co-founder Sergey Brin took to the stage today at The Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco to talk about their new social network and what exactly they’re up to these days.

Among other things, Gundotra touched on the success Google+ has seen since its launch, most notably that users have uploaded 3.4 billion photos over the last 90 days — a statistic which “blew his mind”.

Dennis Ritchie, Father of C and Unix, Died

Dennis Ritchie, famous for inventing the programming language C and who co-developed Unix, was found dead at his home in New Jersey last week.
He died at the age of 70, never fully recovering from his struggles with prostate cancer and heart disease during the last years of his life.
